This rifle is the same as the L42A1 Sniper rifle without the telescope or 7.62 magazine as it was made for competitive rife shooting within the British Armed Services. Usually supplied without a front or rear sight that were then fitted as required at Unit level.
The foresight was usually the tunnel type as in this case which is a Parker Hale “Matchmaker” the rear sight tended to be one of the micrometer adjustable types, this rifle is fitted with a PH 5DC twin zero sight giving it 1/8th minute adjustment. The .303 magazine acts as a loading platform for single shot competition use. A foresight element holder is fitted to the base of the pistol grip of the standard No4 rifle butt. The Monty Carlo butt that is sometime seen on these rifles would have been swapped at unit level are not original issue.
A good original example with a good strong bore that will still hold its own in competition.
